TSUBAME"s software licensing settings are configured in accordance with the information provided in About License Restrictions for Commercial Applications.
However, due to technical constraints, certain restrictions for Ansys were not implemented, and the system had not previously enforced these limits.
As a result, it was possible to run the software beyond the specified limits, leading to situations where fair usage was hindered—such as some users monopolizing licenses.
In October 2026, we made changes to the system to enable it to detect and address license restrictions based on predefined settings.
As a result, there have been cases where Ansys can no longer be used under the conditions that previously allowed it to run.
If you encounter an error when launching Ansys after October, please check to see if you have exceeded the license limits.
Applied License Restrictions
- The number of HPC licenses available on TSUBAME is limited to 80 tokens per user at any given time. (The original limit was 64 tokens, but it has been relaxed to 80 tokens to align with the TSUBAME 4.0 runtime environment.)
- HPC licenses cannot be used outside of the TSUBAME batch queue.
- The base license is limited to 4 tokens per user.
Major computations that will no longer be available
- Executions using TSUBAME’s resource type:cpu_160.
- Simultaneous execution of two or more jobs using TSUBAME's resource type:cpu_80.
- Simultaneous execution of five or more jobs on TSUBAME. (The HPC license limit—approximately 80 CPUs in total—also applies simultaneously.)
- Executions using 2 or more CPUs on laboratory terminals. (In some cases, up to 4 CPUs may be available using the base license.)
- Simultaneous execution of 5 or more jobs on laboratory terminals.
In addition, we regularly monitor and impose restrictions on large-scale executions within a single laboratory and long-term usage exceeding one week.
We ask for your cooperation in ensuring fair license usage.
