Preferential treatment is given to holders of Science Tokyo staff ID and student ID, with the amount charged being reduced to 1/4. As people hold access cards for the Science and Engineering field(*) with various part-time statuses, preferential treatment for the access card holder is only given to those with the following statuses.
・Faculty and staff employed by Science Tokyo and students of Science Tokyo: Preferential treatment (= Available with student ID card, staff ID card)
・Access card holders with the following positions: Preferential treatment (= Available with Access card)
For research purposes:
a) JSPS Postdoctoral positions
b) Short-term foreign students
c) Advisees at other universities
d) Visiting Professors and Visiting Associate Professors
e) Visiting Scholars, visiting fellows, or visiting junior fellows
f) Tokyo Tech Research Fellows who are not employed by any institutions other than Tokyo Tech
g) Students from other institutes who are employed as Science Tokyo RA (Additional conditions are applied)
h) People engaged in the implementation of research at Science Tokyo based on a business consignment contract
For educational purposes:
i) lecturers in charge of classes in Tokyo Tech (Visiting Professors, Visiting Associate Professors, Part-Time Lecturers)
Additional Conditions for RA: Please submit a letter from the student's advisor to the director of GSIC, which states the consent of the following (no format specified):
・The advisor agrees that the student works as Tokyo Tech RA
・The project of the RA has no relationship to the student or advisor's research in their home institute, and the RA must not use TSUBAME for other objectives than RA.
・Other position: No preferential treatment (= Not available with access card)
For example, the following positions are not eligible for preferential treatment (unless they separately fall under a) through h) above). (Examples based on past inquiries)
・Tokyo Tech postdoctoral Fellow employed elsewhere (Ex-members of Tokyo Tech, etc.)
・Joint Researchers and Contract Researchers
・Those dispatched under a dispatch contract using research funds. (Available with Use by research based on competitive funding or joint research agreements)
・Positions by the department's own title
Note) Preferential status may be added for statuses not exemplified above, subject to the approval of the GSIC Cooperative Research Specialist Committee.
How to apply for a TSUBAME account
When applying for a TSUBAME account, the person receiving billing preferential treatment should apply via the Tokyo Tech Portal based on his/her access card information, and then upload a copy of the document that will be used as evidence of his/her status from the Science Tokyo Box.
For users who have been verified with the information linked to their access card, the account will be issued without the need to submit any documents.
Example of document:
- Documents issued by Tokyo Tech that mention the positions above (for a), documents by JSPS are also accepted)
- Excerpt of the minutes of school or department meeting, that mentions the position above
- If the position can be objectively verified by the staff directory or the official website of Tokyo Tech (including departments, etc.) (In this case, please omit attaching documents and send an e-mail with pointers.)
Your account will not be activated until we receive appropriate certifications.
If you lose the above billing preferential status, or if you no longer meet the conditions, such as employment at another institution, please let us know using the Contact Us form.
Those not receiving preferential billing treatment will be treated like off-campus users. Please refer here and apply for an appropriate account from an account other than “1. Internal Users / Eligible for Preferencial Fee”.
Those who do not receive preferential billing treatment cannot apply for an account through the Tokyo Tech Portal.
※2: An access card for the Science and Engineering field is an IC card issued to a person of other status than faculty, staff, and students, who is a member of the university upon application to and approval by the department head, followed by submission of a written pledge. (For the purpose of accessing the information system and entering and leaving the building, etc.)
