(Updated on Dec. 19: Added the schedule for the maintenance during the power outage in March)
As the deadlines for graduation theses and master's theses approach, the utilization rate of TSUBAME increases, the waiting time for jobs becomes longer, and the opportunities to run jobs become fewer. Please plan accordingly and allow plenty of time for your schedule.
The following is a summary of items considered particularly important toward the end of the fiscal year, which users should refer to.
- Please make the specified execution time (-l h_rt) as short as possible
- In principle, TSUBAME points are purchased by the end of December and used by the end of the fiscal year.
- Account expiration date
- Requests for data transfer due to graduation or transfer
- Service Outage due to Maintenance, etc.
- Change in the Maximum Resource Occupancy Limit from October to March
- Grace period for group disk purchases
1. Please make the specified execution time (-l h_rt) as short as possible
Jobs are basically executed in the order they are submitted. If the next job to be executed is a parallel job, even if some compute nodes are free, if the number of nodes is less than the number required for execution, the job will do nothing and wait until the number of nodes are available.
If a job with a specified execution time that is short enough to finish by the scheduled start time of this parallel job is submitted after this job, the parallel job will be overtaken and scheduled to fill this gap, so the waiting time may become shorter (backfill).
If the specified execution time is larger than necessary, jobs that could have been executed may not fill this gap and waste resources. Please submit jobs by specifying a value closer to the actual execution time.
2. In principle, TSUBAME points are purchased by the end of December and used by the end of the fiscal year.
The deadline to purchase TSUBAME points is 12/31. (except in the case of using the following year's budget for corporate operating expenses and scholarship endowment funds for science and engineering). New payment code applications that will be possible within the deadline are due by 12/24 at 9:00 a.m. Please apply as soon as possible, as applications made after that time or with errors may not be used to purchase TSUBAME points for the current fiscal year.
TSUBAME points expire at the end of the fiscal year. Please note that excess TSUBAME Points will expire and cannot be refunded or transferred. Please note that due to maintenance at the end of the fiscal year, TSUBAME points will not be available most of the time on 3/31.

3. Account expiration date
TSUBAME accounts are valid until the end of the fiscal year for both on-campus and off-campus users.(If your IC card expires or your research period ends early, your TSUBAME account will expire before the end of the fiscal year.)
If you wish to continue using TSUBAME next year, you need to apply for account reactivation via Portal for Science & Engineering Field or web form for on-campus users, and for off-campus users, you need to apply for account reactivation via web form. If you do not apply for next year's account, or if you lose your account status due to graduation, etc., the deadline is 9:00 a.m. on March 31 (Fri.).
4. Requests for data transfer due to graduation or transfer
Every year, we receive many inquiries from users who say that they cannot read the data they need for future research because the data transfer was not properly executed.
We believe that the data created by the user belongs to the user and that the user has an obligation to properly manage, transfer, and delete the data himself/herself.
In addition, since it is very dangerous to operate various data with different capacities, number of files, and directory structures one by one with administrator authority, we do not allow CII to move or restore data in principle. In fact, some groups have tens of millions of files, and it is impossible to handle them individually.
Before your account becomes invalid, please be sure to pull up the data to the laboratory or set the appropriate permissions on the group disk so that group members can read and write the data. Also, please delete unnecessary data as much as possible.
FAQ: To allow other members to read and write on a group disk
5. Service Outage due to Maintenance, etc.
5.1 Suzukakedai campus legal power outage(early March)
Due to scheduled power outages at Suzukakedai Campus (Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15) where TSUBAME4.0 is located, service will be suspended during the weekend in early March. Please note that we will announce the exact schedule once it is finalized.
(Updated on Dec. 19: Service is scheduled to be suspended at 12:00 on Friday, March 13, 2026, and resumed at 18:00 on Monday, March 16, 2026.)
5.2 End-of-year maintenance
Due to year-end accounting procedures and system updates, maintenance is typically performed for approximately one week from the last week of March to the first week of April each year. During the maintenance period, you will not be able to log in at all, so please pay attention to the announcements so that you will not be upset if you cannot retrieve your data in time. In particular, if your science and engineering IC card expires during the maintenance, you will not be able to access any data even if operations are resumed.
6. Change in the Maximum Resource Occupancy Limit from October to March
As with TSUBAME3.0, the number of parallels and concurrent executions are changed in the second half of the fiscal year, when usage is expected to be concentrated, to equalize opportunities to use resources. Please note that jobs that were running in the first half of the fiscal year may not run. For details, please refer to Resource Limit Values.
7. Grace period for group disk purchases
To prevent loss of data access in case approval delays occur due to a surge in payment code applications, a grace period will be established for purchasing group disks.
To continue using your data, please complete your group disk purchase after April 2026, once the new fiscal year operations commence. The specific deadline remains undetermined as of November 14.
If the account of the TSUBAME group administrator is no longer available or if he/she is no longer a member of the group, the group will not be able to continue to be used. (For example, if the group administrator moves off campus)
Please save your data or change the group administrator by the end of this academic year.
